Invoices & quotes
Reserved numbering, line items with discounts and VAT, partial payments, and cancellation invoices instead of deleting. 7 templates, live-editable in Invoice Studio. Hours tracked per client and project become a draft invoice.
Fennig is the browser-based invoicing and tax app for freelancers and small businesses under German tax law. It is local by default, with no required account or subscription. Optional account sync remains opt-in and is still undergoing acceptance.
No sign-up. No credit card. Just open it and go.
01 — Features
From your first invoice to the annual tax filing — one tool that actually understands German tax reality.
01
Reserved numbering, line items with discounts and VAT, partial payments, and cancellation invoices instead of deleting. 7 templates, live-editable in Invoice Studio. Hours tracked per client and project become a draft invoice.
02
Every invoice exports as XRechnung (EN 16931). Incoming XRechnung and ZUGFeRD e-invoices are read directly as expenses — mandatory to receive in Germany since 2025.
03
Snap a photo or drop a PDF — merchant, total, VAT, category come out automatically. Every scan lands in a review queue with the receipt shown next to each extracted field before it's booked.
04
EÜR (cash-basis profit statement) with a step-by-step guide, the exact §32a EStG income-tax formula, a Kleinunternehmer threshold tracker, VAT pre-return, EU sales list — live, as you work.
05
Import your bank's CSV export: incoming payments auto-match open invoices, outgoing transactions get an expense-category suggestion — everything reviewable before it's applied.
06
One click: the profit statement mapped to ELSTER (the German tax office's e-filing system), PDFs and an Excel workbook, every invoice as e-invoice XML, receipt images and integrity evidence — plus an optional DATEV SKR03 booking batch.
02 — In detail
A photo of a receipt, a PDF from your inbox, or a whole folder at once: the AI extracts merchant, net amount, VAT, date and category. You review the result next to the original receipt — nothing is booked until you approve it.
Fennig doesn't estimate: income tax follows the exact §32a EStG formula for the current year. The simulator instantly shows what actually stays in your pocket from your next invoice.
Full §14 UStG client records, a payment-behavior score per client, and reminder letters with the correct §288 BGB late-interest and flat fee — drafted as an email, one click away.
03 — Built for Germany
Generic invoicing tools stop at the PDF. Fennig supports record-keeping workflows relevant to GoBD, the EÜR profit statement and e-invoicing — with visible assumptions and professional review still required.
Corrections run through a cancellation invoice, numbering stays reserved and exports remain available. The lock that makes issued documents immutable is built and still switched off in this pre-release. Retention periods depend on the record type; Fennig does not delete local data when a future subscription ends.
Since 2025, businesses in Germany must be able to receive e-invoices. Fennig reads XRechnung and ZUGFeRD, and exports every invoice you create as EN 16931-compliant XML.
All data lives in your browser's own database, on your device. No tracking, no analytics scripts. For AI scanning, receipts only ever go to the provider you configure yourself — or nowhere at all.
A revenue-threshold tracker with a run-rate projection, correct invoice wording, and if you switch to standard VAT taxation: the VAT pre-return is already built in.
The year-end close exports the profit statement mapped to ELSTER's forms, plus a DATEV SKR03 booking batch as CSV — hand it straight to your accountant, no shoebox required.
Fennig is an installable Progressive Web App: load it once, it keeps working offline. Automatic daily backups to a folder you choose.
04 — Pricing
Every feature currently shipped is free and local. Optional Pro is not available yet: sync still needs deployed acceptance, and billing plus hosted AI are not built.

or €70 / year (≈ 2 months free)
If a future Pro subscription ends, paid services stop but the local copy remains readable and exportable. Retention periods depend on the record type; Fennig never uses a subscription to lock local records.
05 — FAQ
By default, on your device in the browser's IndexedDB. Manual JSON export and supported browsers' folder backup remain under your control. If you explicitly enable account sync after it passes acceptance, business records use the configured sync provider; API keys and backup-folder permissions stay device-local.
Yes. Everything the app can do today — invoices, e-invoicing, expenses, AI scanning with your own key, EÜR and year-end close — is free. A future Pro plan may add accepted device sync and hosted AI; billing and a separate cloud-backup product are not available today.
A future cancellation would stop paid services, not access to the local copy. Local records stay readable and exportable. Applicable retention periods depend on the document type; confirm them with your tax adviser.
Yes, Fennig is built exactly for that. Invoices carry the correct §19 wording, the threshold tracker warns you with a run-rate projection before you cross the revenue limit, and if you switch to standard VAT taxation, the VAT pre-return is already there.
No. You can use your own API key (Google Gemini has a free tier) or a local Ollama model — in which case the receipt never leaves your device. Fennig Pro will additionally offer hosted scans without your own key.
No — Fennig is a tool, not tax advice. It calculates your EÜR, income tax under §32a and VAT live, and produces clean exports (ELSTER form mapping, DATEV SKR03) that you file yourself or hand to your accountant.
Any modern browser on desktop and smartphone, installable as an app (PWA) and usable offline. An Android app via the Play Store is planned, iPhone support after that.
The entire interface is available in German, English, Spanish and French — you pick a language on first launch and can change it any time in Settings. Everything is translated, right down to the in-app help. Invoices keep their German business-document format regardless, and official tax terms (EÜR, Anlage S, Steuernummer) stay in German so they match ELSTER and the real forms.
